Let’s Break The Ice, why an Aperol Spritz?
It’s because it’s a new love of mine this year. I went to Italy for the first time and Aperol Spritz’s are very popular there. It was what everyone was drinking and it seems to have become my drink of summer
You have about 60K followers on Instagram, your Blog is incredible, you have traveled all around the world working with incredible brands. How did you come up with She Wears Fashion and what was it that made you want to start creating and writing?
My story is very different to a lot of people but very similar to a lot of influencer’s and online people’s stories. Like a lot of online people, I didn’t have many friends at school. I didn’t have day to day people to talk to that had things in common with me, so I become a bit of a recluse and went online to find people with common interests. That’s basically how I started my blog- I was 16.
So in today’s society, where every culture is connected in someway, how do you remain relevant and appeal to such a diverse audience?
I feel like everybody is so different and because of that, they want to see people that are different. They don’t want to see people like they see in magazines and on TV- they want to see real people. I think because I am a Northern Girl, from Sheffield (doing my thing) and I’m a women of colour, that already makes me very different in the influencer space. I feel like I already have that edge- it’s good to have representation in the industry and I love being a pioneer for that.
Speaking of authenticity, this industry is very competitive. How do you deal with those insecurities and how do you stop yourself from looking at your competitors and staying on your course, on your journey?
I feel like because I have been in this industry for 9 years, I have gone through the roller-coaster of “oh my goodness, these girls are doing more amazing than me” or “oh my goodness, I need to get more likes and followers”. I get what’s important now and its not the likes, the followers and what other people are doing. You need to be able to separate your self-worth as a person to what your job is. What we do is very much who we are (especially in this space)- we blog about things we love- travel, fitness, beauty- everything we enjoy is part of our job. As long as I am happy with the content that I create and making enough money to survive, as long as I am happy, not hurting anybody and still have my integrity, then I am fine. People keep me grounded and wont let me get too big for my boots. At the end of the day, the people you surround yourself with are going to be the ones that remind you of what’s important in life.
Who inspires you, in terms of your career?
That’s a very difficult one but I am inspired by women in the industry and I’m not talking about the big people such as Chiara Ferragni (who is one of the biggest fashion influencers in the world) but I’m talking about every single female or male in the industry. Whether it’s the fashion industry, the beauty industry or just the influencer industry- I think its absolutely amazing what people have achieved.
Who takes your pictures? Are you lucky enough to have a photography following you around 24/7?
I wish! It would make my life and my job so much easier if someone was constantly taking me picture! I am lucky enough that my little sister who is 5 years younger than me, is my best friend in the whole world! She takes my pictures for me and has been there for me since day one.
If you were to stop blogging today- if Instagram and social media were to disappear- what would you do?
I’d probably start my own business- either a creative agency or a PR agency. I would like to still be my own boss.
Favorite outfit of the day- what is your “go to” look?
T-shirt and mom jeans, trainers, a nice handbag and always hoops!
What is the destination that is on the top of your bucket list?
Iceland- I’m hoping to go for my birthday. I am a January baby, weather is terrible but its good for Northern Lights.
For aspiring bloggers/influencers, what attributes do you need to have in order to become an influencer?
Be humble and stay grounded. Be nice to everybody because you do not know when that is going to serve you in the future- and people talk in the industry- that is the most important thing.
What can we expect from She Wears Fashion in the next month, or next year? Do you have any big plans that you can share with us?
There are a few things in the pipeline which I cant really share with you yet as they haven’t been confirmed. I will say that I would love to do more TV stuff because I love that sort of thing.
If you could Break The Ice with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
That is a really hard question! I would love to Break The Ice with Ariana Grande because I think she is a badass woman and she is killing it! I would love to find out how she feels about being this petite woman with this amazing voice- I just love her!
